In the heat of the Nevada desert, the most elite military pilots in the world are about to engage in some friendly competition. Only this year, someone is changing all the rules…
RAF pilot Dexter Stone has been through his fair share of sticky situations. After living through a crash in enemy territory where no one expected him to walk away, the Red Flag training exercises should be a piece of cake-assuming he can keep his mind on the mission and not on the smart mouth of his gorgeous American competition.
As one of the few women in a sky full of hotshot flyboys, Maj. Eleanor Daniels has worked day and night to earn a coveted spot at Red Flag. And she’s not about to let some cocky British bad boy distract her from winning. But when the games take a deadly turn, he may be her only hope for survival.
Bold and exciting! This book worked for me on every level. Emmy Curtis is a brand new author for me, and what a great find she is. I hope to be reading her books for years. This story is crisply written with perfect flow and progression. Every page just leads perfectly into the next and the next. She adds enough well thought out secondary characters to flesh out the story and enhance the overall feel of a military operation.
And what an operation it is! Red Flag is a joint competition between Allied air forces to practice flight operations when they are fighting ISIS. A bit like Top Gun, if you’ve seen that movie, and who hasn’t? The main difference, an important difference for me, is that the female lead character is one of the top USAF pilots! Major Eleanor Daniels is the woman I wish I had grown up to be! Well, except for everyone thinking she got her rank from her father, a three star general. She didn’t, and her father is a certifiable a$$hole!
Eleanor first meets Dex, that’s RAF pilot Dexter Stone, on a bus transporting them to the first Red Flag briefing. Dex caught some snarky remarks from other pilots on the bus, while sitting next to Eleanor, leading them into the first of many witty exchanges. Their attraction was quick, as was their first sexual encounter. Ahem…that’s not uncommon for attractive, consenting adults. Don’t judge.
Unfortunately for Eleanor, and ultimately for Dex, she accidentally overhears a conversation that she shouldn’t have. It leads to all sorts of problems, questions and life-threatening danger. Is it true that extreme danger, when shared, beings people closer? Maybe. Grab a copy of this fantastic book and find out.
